Im not sure he is exactly endorsing piracy, but saying that after he has done his job it isnt his problem. And he doesnt have any 'ownership' of the work.
Terry Gilliam has also good humouredly said that he pinches as many ideas himself as he has had nicked.

But if you are as creative ,imaginative and as hard working as him, and can afford good lawyers to spare you all the dirty work then I dont suppose it makes much difference.

He is doing it to protect himself in some ways...

You know that people are going to copy work. Well, if people are circulating bad copies of your stuff it will also reflect poorly on you.

It is also better to embrace what occours than to try to stop it...Didn't Metallica point that out??

Considering the numerous problems Gilliam has faced in the past with funding I am not surprised he doesn't mind people ripping them off.

IIRC Gilliam once remarked that he much preferred doing those commercials to a feature film because they paid just as much but only took two weeks of his life instead of two years.

Film and TV has massively sold-out on product placement alone, I think the only industry that has not sold-out is the porn industry. Product placement in porn movies, now there's a thought ...

I've never looked at product placement as selling out.

All films have props. All films need props. And, usually, a real life brand name prop adds credibility and believablitiy to a film. So you have a company allowing you to use their actual prop.

And oh yeah...they pay you, too. Which kinda helps out considering how expensive movies are to make.

Gilliam only made like 3 good films, and that was years ago. People give him too much credit, all he can do is fuck with camera angles and produce weird costumes and sets. He's just glad people are willing to watch his stuff, pay or no pay. I kind of agree with him at that.
